the fountain
07:11
|
|||
air full of dreaming, sky full of stars
the sound of people laughing in cafes and in bars
as i turned a corner i came into a square
there were lovers all around me, lovers everywhere
their eyes were for each other as the world around them turned
they were lost to venus and the stars
were falling
stars were falling
the water from the fountain
annoints these dreaming lovers
the wine is their communion
as they keep the dawn from breaking
as i look around me
eloise is rising
high above the rooftops in the arms
of some sweet lover
some sweet lover

you are flown from me
04:03
|
|||
you are flown from me
but i am always with you
you are flown from me
but i am always with you
along the ledge
let me go you said
and you were right
i was holding on too tight
you are flown from me
but i am always with you
you are flown from me
but i am always with you
it's time to go
but even so
i watch you fly
in a long long goodbye
and though it's hard to see you
make mistakes
i cannot be the one to heal your heart
when it breaks
the cat smothers the kitten
who stays too long
and the world is waiting for your song
and the world is ready for your song
your voice
in your time
your voice
in your time

the sugarspell
06:02
|
|||
the sugarspell fell over the people
here's the door, here's the house, here's the steeple
bow down bow down to money
sweeter than honey
we don't make things now
but we can borrow
have now,
your children pay tomorrow
and the bland rise in a land of paper
fill in the form, fill in the form and come back later
you say you come in peace
you are a liar
you watch your gold and silver
climbing higher
and another young boy dies
to keep you in power
you are deaf to his cries in your ivory tower
and the sugarspell fell over the people
here's the door, here's the house, here's the steeple
we don't make things now
but we can borrow
have now,
our children pay tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow
but the fool is prince
in a land of beauty
the fool is prince
in a land of love
fool is prince
in a land of beauty
the small birds sing
a child is king
the small birds sing
a child

kathleen
04:00
|
|||
it's plain to see the sun won't shine today
i'm not in the mood for sunshine anyway
think i'll go insane i have to stop the pain
think i'll go down to see kathleen
a swallow comes she tells me of her dreams
says she'd like to know just what they mean
feel like i could die as i see her flying by
ride the northwind down to see kathleen
moon hangs high above the oceans roar
the stars have come to lead me to her door
crystal across the sands the waves they take my hand
soon i will see my sweet kathleen

convoy
08:26
|
|||
draw the blanket of ocean over the frozen face
he lies, his eyes quarried by glittering fish
staring through the green freezing sea glass
at the northern lights
he is now a child in the land of christmas
watching amazed the white tumbling bears
and the diving seal
the iron wind clangs round the ice caps
the five pointed dog-star burns over the silent sea
and the three ships come sailing in
sunday 29th april, 1945
left about 9.15 as part of a large convoy, sea flat and calm. about 9.30pm there was quite an explosion, didn't sound like a depth charge
monday 30th april 1945
moderate weather, in the evening drank beer, rum, ate chocolates. talked of home and of people at home
thurs 3 may 1945
a grey sky and sea. passed the day as usual. things naturally much better since the states. we now have beer, chocolate and sweets
saturday 5th may 1945
mild sunshine and a cold wind. did a little dobie. played records. same old routine, sea and yet more sea - developed quite a roll late in the evening
sunday 6th may 1945
heavy swell. ship rolling badly. pass time playing records and reading. war news is great
wednesday 9th may 1945
came off watch at 4 a.m, found an unofficial party in the saloon. joined in and just managed to stay on my feet. the people at home are on their second days holiday

essex song
06:59
|
|||
through bushes and through briars
i lately take my way
all for to hear the small birds sing
and the lambs to skip and play
all for to hear the small birds sing
and the lambs to skip and play
i overheard my own true love
his voice was loud and clear
long time i have been waiting for
the coming of my dear
long time i have been waiting for
the coming of my dear
sometimes i am uneasy
and troubled in my mind
sometimes i think i will go to him
and tell to him my mind
sometimes i think i will go to him
and tell to him my mind
but if i should go to my love
and my lover he'd say no
if i show to him my boldness
he'll never love me again
if i show to him my boldness
he'll never love me again
an old world under my feet
under my feet under my feet
no sign of the sunday bell or the wishing well or the maids a milking
meadows under my feet
under my street under my street
but where are the stable doors and the cobble floors and the anvil ringing?
but they left no trace when they covered this place
covered this place
to make a new world then
and to start again
from the flames of
london town
